Pick Up a Pen, Start Writing Contest
The convention in Lansing was distinguished as a Mecca of fanzines. From the early days of mimeo to the more recent times of digital format, fanfiction has been a part of our existence. Every year, writers and publishers would receive awards for their work, nominated and voted upon by the readers. Sadly, fanzines have more or less become a thing of the past. People now publish stories online, through sites like Archive of Our Own.
We wanted to do something to honor the legacy of fanfic with a Writing Contest. Entries will be judged by members of the con committee. The top three stories will be printed in the Program Book.
Instructions
- Write a story of 1000 words or less, any fandom.
- Keep the content PG-13. No graphic depictions of sex or violence, please.
- The theme for your story can be based on one or all of the following topics: REUNION, NOSTALGIA, OLD FRIENDS, CELEBRATION, and/or SWEET ENDINGS.
- Each story must have a title and author bi-line (pen names can be used for publication but we will need your real name for our records), as well as the name of the fandom upon which it is based.
- You can submit up to three separate stories but they must be different fandoms. Only one story per writer will win (read: not three stories by the same person).
- Deadline for submissions is February 28, 2025.
- Send your entry as an attached file to this address and put “Story Contest” in the subject line.
